Discovering the Healing Power of Reiki: Part Three

Jul 02, 2024

In week three of our four-part series, “Discovering the Healing Power of Reiki,” we continue exploring the many aspects of this wonderful healing practice. Read below to learn how Reiki flows, why Reiki is called Smart Energy, and more.

Do I Need to Direct the Flow of Reiki?

When receiving a Reiki healing, it can be natural to think that you need to move the energy to the part of your body that needs it most. In fact, Reiki energy will flow completely on its own to the part of your body or soul that is calling out for it. Neither the practitioner nor the recipient needs to worry about the Reiki energy being misplaced.

For some recipients, however, coming to a Reiki session with a clear intention can be a powerful way to create a linear channel by which the Reiki energy moves directly to that area. When we have a clear intention in our soul for healing, the Reiki energy moves fluidly and powerfully directly to that area.

What Purpose Do the Reiki Symbols Serve?

You may have heard that within the Reiki tradition, there are symbols that practitioners use to assist in their healing. These symbols are highly sacred, so I won’t go into great detail. However, these lovely symbols help me as a practitioner focus on the different kinds of healing needs of my clients. Each symbol has a different meaning, and I use them to remember the different aspects of my healing tradition.

In addition to being used during healings, Reiki symbols are also very important when a practitioner receives a Reiki attunement. It is at this time that the meanings of the symbols are revealed and passed down from the Reiki Master to the student.

Why is Reiki Called “Smart Energy”?

Reiki energy is sometimes called Smart Energy because it does not need to be directed to any specific part of the body. Rather, the energy knows where to go on its own.

Reiki energy is intelligent in this way. It works in cooperation with the practitioner but also independently, moving right to where you need it most. For this reason, recipients of Reiki energy should have complete faith that their healing sessions will result in their highest benefit at that given moment.

What is a “Healer”?

While there are many ways to think about healers, I prefer a combination of two different perspectives. The first perspective is that a Healer is simply someone who was sick and got well. This perspective highlights that all Healers have been through difficult journeys and decided to help others.

The other perspective of a Healer is simply someone who shows the patient how to heal themselves. From this perspective, the recipient of a healing session, not the practitioner, is, in fact, the real healer. Your ability to heal has always rested inside your own soul.
